"Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt."
– Leonardo da Vinci

More about the painter
I taught American Literature for nearly 40 years and loved incorporating art history into my classes. Year after year my students insisted I needed to take a studio course. Having never attempted anything visual, I always declined. I was trying to become a poet and believed I could never become a painter, but they won finally me over. I took one drawing class, then a painting class—and I was hooked. And here we are . . .

I work in oils and acrylics, primarily landscapes, either of Nolensville, or Belgium, where I lived for 15 years. I also love to paint flowers, primarily because I rarely can keep any alive. I give much credit for my fledgling success to First Light Art Academy in Brentwood, to my good friend and mentor, Lou Hoover, and to God, the first and greatest artist and creator.

"The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude." – Friedrich Nietzsche
